PENNY BLOOM 2010.6 / Poster / with Sujung, Changhee
Everyday, millions of people use streets of downtown. However, the interaction between fellow citizens is very limited. Although many people are in the same place at the same time, it is hard to acknowledge the coexistence with others. Ironically, ‘belonging togetherness’ is the hardest thing to achieve in the busiest streets of the city. How can we change the city spaces to become more inviting and lead to socially beneficial and meaningful results? PENNY BLOOM is a fundraising system happening in streets around high-rise buildings (so called concrete jungle) to create public furniture or hold cultural events that bonds community together to become more intimate space to be.
Countless people using the street will throw pennies into PENNY BLOOM box. With time, messages will be delivered through public furniture and events created by the people of city. PENNY BLOOM will create an intimate community around the city.
